Rochester Public Library Digitizing Project

Kirtas Bookscan at RPL

With the generous support of the Gleason Foundation, the Rochester Public Library has undertaken a three-year digitization effort that will allow library users online access to items owned by its Local History and Genealogy Department.

Using the Kirtas Bookscan 1200, Digitizing Project staff have begun scanning Rochester City Directories. The directories contain a wealth of information of interest to genealogists and historical researchers. Take a look at the City Directories online.

The Kirtas Bookscan 1200 is a locally-invented and manufactured book scanner that enables libraries to scan even the most fragile materials without fear of damaging pages or bindings. It can scan up to 1200 pages per hour and produces excellent quality images. For more information about the project, contact the Digitizing Project Manager.
